MOTO GUZZI V7 CLASSIC.

I'VE DESCRIBED ELSEWHERE, ON MY BREVA 1100 PAGE HOW I HAPPENED TO COME TO THE  V7 CLASSIC SO WON'T GO IN TO THAT AGAIN. I ALSO WON'T GO IN TO THE BACKGROUND OF THE V7 AND V7 CLASSIC MODEL DEVELOPMENT THERE ARE ENOUGH EXPLANATIONS OF THAT AROUND.

SOME RATHER RUSHED THOUGHTS THEN WHICH I WILL RE-ORGANISE AND ADD TO WHEN TIME ALLOWS:

I COLLECTED MY V7 CLASSIC FROM MOTO STRADA IN SHIPLEY, WEST YORKSHIRE MID JUNE AND HAVE HAD JUST A FEW WEEKS OWNERSHIP AND RATHER LIMITED TIME TO RIDE BUT ENOUGH TO WRITE A FEW EARLY THOUGHTS. I ALSO CAN'T ARRANGE TO HAVE FIRST SERVICE FOR ANOTHER FORTNIGHT SO HAVE HAD TO BE A LITTLE SPARING IN HOW MUCH I DO USE IT WHEN I DO GET THE CHANCE AS I DON'T WANT TO GO TOO FAR OVER THE FIRST SERVICE MILEAGE - BUT WILL  INEVITABLY GO OVER!

THE BIKE LOOKS STUNNING. ANY PICTURES ON THE WEB DON'T DO IT JUSTICE IT LOOKS EVEN BETTER IN THE TIN. THE BIKE IS A REAL LOOKER AND ATTENTION GRABBER. I HAVE NOT HAD ONE  NEGATIVE COMMENT AND PLENTY OF 'WOW'S' - OKAY MUST ADMIT MY 'MANLINESS' HAS BEEN A LITTLE BRUISED AS IT HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS BEING A REALLY 'PRETTY' BIKE SEVERAL TIMES ALREADY!! NOT SURE HOW THAT QUITE CONFORMS TO MY 'RUFTY TUFTY' SHALLOW IMAGE!!

I WANTED A PHYSICALLY SMALL LIGHT BIKE AND THAT IS JUST WHAT I HAVE. THE V7 IS BASICALLY 7 STONE LIGHTER THAN THE 1100 AND FEELS IT. MANOUVERING AROUND TAKES NO EFFORT AT ALL. OBVIOUSLY I AM RUNNING IN AND KEEPING STRICTLY TO RUNNING IN REVS AND PROCEDURES BUT EVEN SO THE BIKE IS ALREADY QUITE SPRIGHTLY AND A JOY TO HAUL ROUND BENDS AND THROUGH ROUNDABOUTS. LINE CHANGES ARE INSTANT.

IRONICALLY THOUGH, AS I SWITCHED FROM THE BREVA1100 TO THE V7 CLASSIC LARGELY BECAUSE OF MY SHORT LEGS STRUGGLING A LITTLE WITH THE 1100 SEAT HEIGHT AND WEIGHT. TURNS OUT THE V7 SEAT HEIGHT FEELS ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME! BUT, THE LIGHTNESS (AND ADJUSTING THE REAR SHOCKS) MEANS IT IS FAR MORE MANAGEABLE.

IT ALSO HAS A SURPRISING WONDERFULLY, SPORTY HOWL THROUGH THE AIR BOX AND I'M TOLD SOUNDS GOOD ON APPROACH.

I HAVE ALREADY FITTED A GUZZI SCREEN (STANDARD BREVA 750 SCREEN I THINK) AS THE CLOCKS ARE QUITE EXPOSED AND I FELT IT WOULD HELP IN THE LONG RUN TO KEEP THAT AREA CLEAN AND TIDY. IT LOOKS FINE - LOOKS BETTER WITHOUT - BUT I'M HAPPY WITH IT. IT CERTAINLY TOOK A HAMMERING ON A WARM EVENING EARLIER THIS WEEK WHEN THE BUGS WERE OUT IN FORCE.

HAVE SO FAR ONLY COVERED NEARING 400 MILES AND AGAIN AT RUNNING IN REVS WITH PLENTY OF SUPERFULOUS RUNNING IN GEAR CHANGES AND CORRESPONDING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. THE FIRST PROPERLY RECORDED TANK FULL OF THAT PRECIOUS FLUID HAS GIVEN SOMETHING AROUND 65/68 MPG (IMPERIAL). INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THIS DEVELOPS WITH THE END OF RUNNING IN, MORE SENSIBLE RIDING AND A FREEING ENGINE. I SUSPECT FROM PAST EXPERIENCE THAT THE FIGURE WILL REMIAN MUCH THE SAME TAKING IN TO ACCOUNT DIFFERENT RIDING STYLES FROM RUNNING IN TO RIDING 'PROPER'.

NOT HAD A PARTICULARLY LONG RIDE SO FAR, LONGEST SINGLE SITTING PROBABLY ONLY 60 MILES OR SO AND THE SEAT WAS FINE BUT IT IS HARDER THAN THAT OF THE BREVA1100 GEL SEAT.

NEGATIVES - ONLY ONE SO FAR AND THAT A BIT OF  DESIGN SILLINESS. WHERE THE REAR MUDGUARD IS BOLTED TO THE SUB FRAME UNDER THE SEAT (WHICH BY THE WAY HAS ABSOLUTELY NO STORAGE SPACE) THERE ARE GAPING HOLES WHERE WATER AND MUCK WILL BE SPRAYED IN UNDER THE SEAT AND PROBABLY OVER THE ELECTRICS. I'VE SEALED THE HOLES WITH CLEAR SILICONE TO STOP THAT HAPPENING.

RIGHT ENOUGH FOR NOW WILL BE BACK WHEN A FEW MORE MILES ON THE CLOCK.

wILL ADD SOME PICTURES NEXT DAY OR TWO.
